About Volaine

Practical answers, not a diagnosis.

Volaine exists for one reason: there's a lot of medical content about thinning hair, and a lot of generic beauty content about hair in general — but almost nothing in between for a woman who just wants to know what to actually do about it.

What we believe

Four rules we hold ourselves to

This is a styling decision, not a diagnosis.

Choosing a topper or a new shampoo is the same kind of decision as choosing a haircut — it doesn't need to be treated as a medical event, and we won't write about it like one.

“Best” always means something specific.

We don't hand out “best topper” or “best shampoo” as a bare superlative. Best for what, for whom, compared to what — every recommendation says so.

The honest answer is sometimes “skip this.”

If a product isn't right for your situation, we'll say so, even if it costs us a sale.

We name who shouldn't buy something, too.

A recommendation without a stated downside isn't a real recommendation.

Our story

Why we built this

Volaine started from a gap, not a personal milestone story we're going to dress up as more than it is: we kept noticing that the women searching "my hair is thinning, what do I do" were landing on clinical pages about follicles and hormones, when what they actually wanted was someone to say, plainly, "here's what to try, here's what it'll cost, here's who this isn't for."

So that's what we built. We're a small team of researchers and writers who dug into the styling techniques, the products, and the hair toppers that actually show up in real comparisons and real reviews — and wrote it the way we'd want it explained to us, not the way a product label or a medical site would explain it.

We're not doctors, and we don't try to be. We don't write about why hair thins. We write about what to do once it has — the styling, the products, and the topper options that help you feel like yourself, today, without wading through jargon or a sales pitch dressed up as advice.

How we choose what to recommend

Research and comparison, not a sales pitch

We research and compare — reading real product specs, real reviews, and real before-and-after results — rather than claiming hands-on testing we haven't done. Where a product page says "researched" or "compared," that's literally what happened. We won't tell you we tried something firsthand unless that's true, and right now, it isn't part of how this site works. If that changes, we'll say so plainly here.

Volaine earns a commission on some of the products we link to. That's how we keep this free and ad-light. It doesn't change what we recommend — if a lower-commission or non-affiliate option is genuinely the better fit for your situation, we'll tell you that instead.

Who this is for

Wherever you are in this, you're in the right place

Whether you noticed your hair thinning last month or have been managing it for years, whether you're here for a styling trick or seriously considering a topper for the first time — Volaine is built around the same idea: you deserve a straight answer, not a scare and not a sales pitch.

What we won't do

The line we draw on purpose

We don't write about why hair thins — hormones, medical causes, or treatment efficacy. That's not a gap in our knowledge we're hiding; it's a line we draw on purpose, because that territory belongs to doctors, not to a styling and product site. If you're looking for answers to "why is this happening," a dermatologist is the right place to start. We're here for "what do I do about it now" — and we take that question just as seriously.

Questions or corrections?

If something on Volaine is wrong, outdated, or doesn't match your experience, we'd rather fix it than leave it.
